Should I pursue prosecution of crimes against me?
So you are the victim of a crime. It may be publicly known or it may be unknown to most. It may be recent or it may be the silent horror of a broken childhood. The perpetrator may be someone you know well or someone you never met before the crime took place. The crime may have been theft, physical abuse, sexual in nature, or any number of other issues. And now you're facing the
Can I take a Christian to court?
Living in a broken world is messy. It would be nice if everyone saw eye-to-eye and problems were easily resolved. Unfortunately, this is rarely the case. Even believers sometimes find themselves in bitter disputes with other believers. This raises the question: Is it ok to take another believer to court? A common answer to this question is a straightforward—and sometimes emphatic—no. The Apostle Paul addressed the question directly in 1 Corinthians 6:1-8. 1 Corinthians 6
Breaking down discrimination
We have heard that the path to God is narrow. In the Old Testament, the path to salvation was restrictive. While God laid out a path through his chosen people, the Jews created artificial restrictions which effectively eliminated many people's hope. They set up discriminating systems that put God in a box and elevated their own status. In Isaiah 56, God addresses the excluded when he says: v. 3: Let no foreigner who has
Dodgy governments
Every day we are reminded of the incompetence of government. We hear it on the news and from our co-workers. We remember it when we're stuck in traffic or waiting for a bureaucrat to answer the phone. Misguided policies and wasteful programs are commonplace. (I speak as a long-suffering New South Welshman) Whether it's a local, state or federal issue, dodginess is something we simply expect from government. Our authorities are not only "tricky," they
Remember my bonds
I scan literally tens of thousands of blog posts a year in my work here at InFocus. It is at least a weekly—if not daily—event to read of persecution of believers around the world. I chose long ago not to focus on reporting such things on InFocus. My primary reason being that others are already doing that quite thoroughly. Still, I wouldn't want to give the impression that persecution is not common. It is. Very
Politics
I am unashamedly non-partisan. I swing at the ballot box because I love truth and justice more than any party. Every election is a complex calculus of multitudinous factors and disparate likely outcomes assessed pragmatically with the engagement of my mind, my heart, and my conscience. You’ll see me critique and affirm both sides of politics based on whether I think what they are doing is good or bad, admirable or detestable. I would love to convince you to be a swing-voter too.
Legal reform
The following are some key areas in which I want to see legal reform. These are based on my observations in helping the vulnerable. I have sought to give an indication of the particular jurisdiction I have in mind. That said, I want to see progress on these issues across all jurisdictions.
If I can help you or you can help me progress any of these causes, please don’t hesitate to contact me.
