How sad is it when we identify more with the enemies of God then those that are in His family? How many times have we heard the phrase (and maybe said it too), “He/she is better than many Christians I know.”
When I first read in the Old Testament about how Cain’s offering was rejected, I was indignant! This is not fair! I would have chosen his sacrifice over a blood sacrifice!
Here comes Esau whose brother stole his blessing, and what does he do?
“But Esau ran to meet him and embraced him and fell on his neck and kissed him, and they wept.”
I like to see such unconditional forgiveness!
It seems that often we behave like the older brother in the parable of the prodigal son. What are we showing? Pride. Yes, pride. Because we think we can please God in our own efforts. Pride because we think we are more righteous than our Lord. Pride because we think we are better than our sisters and brothers.
