If you grew up going to Sunday School, then—like me—you probably have many songs stuck in our head. The older I get, the more I appreciate the life truths that these songs declare. Next to Scripture memory, I can’t think of better words to have circulating in my head. Here are my top five songs.

1) Jesus Loves Me

This simplistic truth is so profound yet not complex.

2) My God is so Big

When life’s problems seem big, God is bigger.

3) This is the Day

Every morning there is reason to celebrate.

4) Rejoice in the Lord Always

Praise and Hallelujah—our response to the Lord.

5) Jesus Loves the Little Children (Red and Yellow, Black and White)

God is not racist.

There are so many Christian songs we grew up with. What are some of your favourites?

    Good songs.

Although I think deep and wide is very generic. My Sunday school teacher said it was describing Jesus’ blood covering our sin. Maybe there is a verse about it, but we only learned the chorus.

A chorus the kids learnt this year at SS is “Faith is just believing” (what God said he would do).

It struck me as being very good theology, a good simple definition of faith, which the kids (and grown ups) need to understand for salvation and for living the Christian life.
    Catchy tune too.

“Did you ever talk to God above?” was my favourite as a young girl, growing up in church, Girl’s Rally etc. Some lines from the song still grab my attention and remind me of the wonderful avenue of prayer and how close my Lord is to me in all situations.

Steve, Alana, Robert, Thanks for your contributions. The tunes and more importantly the words are all coming back to me now.
