“Where is God? Where is he in my suffering? Where is his goodness he promised me? Why has he forsaken me?”

This week has not been an easy one for me. I’ve been stressed out, depressed, and struggling with several key questions in my life. In the midst of it all, I cried out “Where is God?!”

In my desperation, I opened my Bible and flipped to Psalms and started reading. One verse almost immediately stood out to me: “Return to your rest, my soul, for the Lord has been good to you.” (Psalm 116:7).

I felt the words touch home: “God has been good to you. Run back to the truth you know about Him. Find in Him the rest you know from experience that you will find. Be at peace, my troubled soul. For the Lord has been good to you.”

We can’t always see God in our trials or feel His presence in our suffering, but that doesn’t change the truth that He is there and He is working all things together for our good for His glory (Romans 8:2).

We can find our rest in the truth we know about God even if we can’t see Him in the moment we are in.

And maybe one day you’ll look back on one of those times you couldn’t see God anywhere and your eyes will be opened and you’ll whisper in awe and gratitude:

“Oh, there he is. I see him clearly now.”
